Apple Acknowledges Faulty Time Capsules—Travels Back to 2008 to Make Repairs

Apple issued a support statement over the weekend regarding its Time Capsule data backup solution—some of them have been breaking well before they should. But it's OK, models from between Feb and June 2008 can be replaced, free.

If you have a malfunctioning, out-of-warranty Time Capsule that "may not power on or may shut down unexpectedly after starting up" with a serial number that falls in the range XX807XXXXXX to XX814XXXXXX, Apple says you qualify for "repair or replacement" under its new crowd-pleasing scheme. Plus Apple is refunding previous repair costs, if you've paid to have one of the specified models fixed yourself.
